Halloumi Schnitzel is a crispy, golden-fried halloumi cutlet coated in breadcrumbs mixed with za’atar, giving it a crunchy texture and a savory, herby Middle Eastern twist.
Halloumi Schnitzel - (cheese Schnitzel)
Ingredients
• 2 packs halloumi cheese
• 50 g all-purpose flour
• 2 large eggs
• 70 g breadcrumbs (panko works well for extra crunch)
• 2 tbsp za’atar
• Neutral oil for frying (sunflower or vegetable)
Instructions
Slice the halloumi into 1–1.5 cm thick slices.
• Place flour on one plate.
• Beat the eggs in a shallow bowl.
• Mix breadcrumbs with za’atar
Dip each slice of halloumi into the flour, shaking off excess.
Coat in egg, then press firmly into the breadcrumb mixture.
Repeat until all slices are breaded.
Heat a generous layer of oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
Fry the halloumi schnitzels for 2–3 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy.
Transfer to paper towel to drain briefly.
Serve warm with sweet chili sauce or fig jam.
